What's New
Labor Day Office Closure
August 27, 2025
The office of the Texas Board of Chiropractic Examiners will be closed Monday, September 1st in observance of Labor Day. The office will reopen Tuesday, September 2nd at 8:00 A.M. CST.
Reminder to All Licensees
May 6, 2025
As of September 1, 2020, all licensees are required to complete a Health and Human Services Commission-approved course in human trafficking awareness (see Texas Occupations Code Chapter 116) in order to renew a chiropractic license. The new list of HHSC approved training courses can be found here: Human Trafficking Course List.
For a license renewal hold to be released, a licensee
must submit a certificate of completion to
licensing@tbce.texas.gov. DO NOT wait until the last minute
to complete and submit the training certificate. Once a renewal
hold is released, the new record will take up to two business
days to engage with our online payment system. Licensees are
responsible for all aspects of license renewal, up to and
including late fees or fines.
Please note that the Human Trafficking course is a requirement
for renewal but does not count towards a licensee’s continuing
education requirements.
Scam Alert
March 27, 2025
The Texas Board of Chiropractic Examiners reminds all licensees to be aware of scams targeting licensed chiropractors. Scams can include individuals claiming to be representatives or investigators of the Board or other government agencies such as the DPS, FBI, DEA, or IRS. They will often claim that the chiropractor faces arrest or that his or her license has been suspended, revoked, or is somehow in jeopardy. They will then demand payment or other sensitive personal information such as social security numbers to commit identity fraud. They might also spoof the agency's phone number, or attempt to use forgeries of our letterhead, the seal of the State of Texas, our address, or forged signatures of our staff or Board members.
Please be advised that any licensee under investigation by the Board will be notified by regular and certified USPS mail. The letter will contain the contact information for the relevant investigator. Governmental agencies at both the state and federal level will not make first contact related to a complaint by telephone. Emergency license suspensions will be served in person by clearly identified Board personnel. The Board might call or email the subject of an investigation only if it receives no response to the written letters.
If a licensee ever questions any enforcement related communication, they are urged to immediately contact the TBCE at our main line telephone number: 512-305-6700. Board staff can quickly determine whether the notice is legitimate, and if it is, they can easily forward you to the relevant investigator. Alternatively, you may contact your attorney or malpractice carrier who can then reach out to us.
The Board will never contact licensees by telephone demanding money or threatening license suspension. Board investigators will not ask for personal identification such as social security numbers or dates of birth over the phone.
Feel free to contact us at tbce@tbce.texas.gov if you have any questions or wish to share information about suspected fraud.

Brief Statement on TAAOM Lawsuit Settlement
January 17, 2024
Austin, TX – The Texas Association of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (TAAOM) has chosen not to appeal the recent Austin district court decision upholding the Texas Board of Chiropractic Examiners' (Board) rule governing the practice of acupuncture by Texas chiropractors. The court’s judgement was rendered on October 3, 2023. In exchange for TAAOM’s waiver of their right to appeal, the Board and the state have waived TAAOM’s court costs in the litigation.
This settlement avoids further legal uncertainties and allows both parties to focus on their important roles in serving the Texas healthcare community. The Board will continue to fulfill its duty of regulating chiropractors in the state, which includes regulating the use of acupuncture by chiropractors within the chiropractic scope of practice.
